The
Uranus-Neptune Conjunction of 1993
In
1993 Uranus and Neptune, aligned, inaugurating a new 171-year
cycle of social, political and economic change. This conjunction
occurred in Capricorn, an earth sign, signaling deconstruction
of borders, boundaries and systems.
The
continuing implications of this change started to become clearer
when Uranus moved into Aquarius in 1996. That year everybody jumped
onto the Internet. Both Uranus and Aquarius have to do with technologies;
the information highway was thick with new drivers.
In
1998 Neptune, with its subtle, foggy impact, crossed into Aquarius
as well. The information highway became slippery. “Surfing the
Net” was increasingly tricky. Neptune suggests initial confusion
as it changes the cosmic radio station. It rules advertising and
viruses, now rampant in the new technology.
Neptune also suggests deception; some people don’t believe Y2K
is real or avoid thinking about it at all. In either case, Neptune
fogs our vision, making it difficult to accurately predict the
potential problems. It’s a mystery.
On
the bright side, my feeling is that Spirit will use the technology.
Am I a dreamer? In the words of John Lennon, “I’m not the only
one.” Neptune is the dreamtime planet. If we all dream powerfully
enough, we will create a new vision.
The beauty of the Internet is its democratic openness and capacity
for global connectedness. Very Aquarian. A social revolution is
in progress and this technology is a big part of it.
Millennium
Eve Conjunction of Pluto and Chiron
On
December 30-31, New Millennium Eve, there is an infrequent pairing
of two transformational factors, Pluto and Chiron, in the sign
of Sagittarius. Both of these bodies are unusual and unclassifiable.
Pluto, discovered in 1930, is the smallest planet, even smaller
than Mercury.
Pluto
follows an irregular orbit at the outer edge of the solar system
where the Kuiper Belt, a kind of nursery for comets, begins. It
has a moon half its size, almost like a double planet. Some astronomers
want to declassify Pluto as a planet and call it the first and
largest “ice ball” of the Kuiper Belt objects. Mythologically
Pluto is god or goddess of the underworld, of death and rebirth.
Chiron
was discovered in 1977. It's not an asteroid, not a planetoid
and not a comet; astronomers made up a new category. It is the
first of the Centaur objects, so called because Chiron was a centaur,
half-horse/half-man, in Greek mythology.
A
master teacher and a master healer, Chiron is the shaman of the
solar system. Its orbit creates a bridge between Saturn, the last
visible planet representing reality as we experience it in the
here-and-now, and Uranus, a “modern” planet representing revolution
and radical new possibilities.
The
last time this potent pair, the Shaman and the Goddess of the
Underworld, aligned was in 1941, a rather pivotal year! Here they
join on New Year’s Eve of the Millennium, suggesting a powerful
eruption of transformative impact. This conjunction in Sagittarius
suggests that our belief systems are under deep scrutiny, giving
rise to new visions.
May
2000 - Seven Planets in Taurus
In
May 2000 there is a striking, unusual alignment of the Sun, Moon
and the five visible planets—Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and
Saturn—all in the sign of Taurus. Saturn is already in Taurus.
If you look in the night sky now, you can see Saturn and Jupiter
getting closer each month. This rare gathering puts a lot of eggs
in one basket, so to speak.
Taurus
is an earth sign, a sign of substance, the basics of life and
the global economic base. It has to do with our values and what
we consider to be of long-term worth. The very questions of day-to-day
living and self-sufficiency that Y2K brings up are appropriate
for such a strong Taurus experience.
Y2K
might not be a dramatic, overnight event, especially in the United States.
But, cumulative effects could make profound changes over time. The effects
of Y2K should be evident by the May 2000 planetary alignment. Meanwhile,
our thoughts and dreams are powerful tools to help us create a brighter
future.
