NewsScope for December 20

Internet Builds Global Revolution

Last week tech stocks leaped ahead on their runaway, record-breaking rally, while government officials met in San Francisco to discuss e-taxes. On the diplomatic front, analysts noted that Syria’s interest in making peace with Israel is for business reasons: Syria’s failed economy needs western investments, and most specifically, Syria wants the Internet. China watchers noted that by 2005 Internet use in China will likely surpass the U.S.

Astrologically, the stunning, electrifying growth of the Internet reached a peak of activity last week when Pallas Athena turned retrograde on the U.S. Midheaven. (Editor's note: WolfStar uses the Scorpio rising U.S. chart.) Pallas Athena is the natural ruler of the Internet, and although the tech stocks did not level off on Wednesday (as was incorrectly forecast in this column), the most successful internet companies were all in the news.

AOL announced its partnership with WalMart, Microsoft is teaming up with Best Buy, and Yahoo is marrying K-Mart. These and other Internet news items propelled the NASDAQ to over 70 percent gains so far this year. One financial analyst reported that the stock market has not seen such phenomenal growth since 1915, when the Dow was up 81 percent.

This activity points to Uranus, the planet governing high tech industry and revolution. Uranus takes 84 years to make one complete cycle, and in 1915 was in exactly the same zodiacal location as it is this year. At the time, the top corporations were all profiting from the industrial mobilization for World War I. Americans’ domestic tranquility was rudely awakened.

The importance of this degree zone is that it marks the entrance of the U.S. Fourth House, the sector describing conditions on the home front. The United States is now in the midst of an unfettered, unmanaged technological revolution with the same disruptive excitement as World War I. Internet technology is shaping the global infrastructure as we collectively enter the next millennium.

Winter Solstice Full Moon

On December 22 at 12:31 pm EST (9:31 am PST) a rare Full Moon takes place on the same day as the Winter Solstice. Since the Moon is at its closest point to the Earth, and the Earth is at its closest to the Sun, this Full Moon will appear to be exceedingly bright. Astronomers and astrologers alike are breathlessly anticipating this spectacular event.

The unusually strong gravitational pull from this alignment makes for dangerous weather and geological conditions. Earthquakes, volcanoes, winter storms, mudslides, torrential downpours, and other dramatic meteorological events can be expected. The Winter Solstice Full Moon at the dawn of the millennium will likely inspire poets and mystics as much as anarchists and terrorists.

Mars  in Aquarius is now in the U.S. Fourth House, and already reports are emerging of would-be plots to blow up New Year’s celebrations. Tons of dynamite have been stolen by unknown perpetrators from a mining camp in Williams, Arizona, while an assumed follower of Osama bin Laden was arrested in Seattle with the same explosive materials used in the 1993 detonation of New York’s World Trade Center. Religious extremists running militia camps are being tracked by the FBI, and we can only hope they have all of them under surveillance.

Stevie Wonder’s Vision

Last week, musician Stevie Wonder, who has been blind from birth, talked about a miracle technology cure that may restore his sight. A microchip surgically implanted in the back of the eye would transmit images to the brain. The technology may be widely available within three years, and offers millions of Americans who are blind due to retinal damage an option never before imagined.

Stevie Wonder was born a musical Taurus (May 13, 1950; 4:15 pm; Saginaw, MI), with Neptune, the planet of imagination, mysticism and vision right on his Libra Ascendant. Self-sacrificing Neptune dominates the horoscope, and describes his hopeful comments about the procedure, “It’s not about me. Now people will be aware of this technology and maybe funds will be raised for other people, for someone to be able to see. That’s the exciting part.”

Stevie Wonder’s exploration of this eye chip is tied to Pallas Athena. Pallas rules pattern recognition, and so governs physical sight as well as understanding. Mystical visions often take place when Jupiter or Neptune makes contact with Pallas. Stevie Wonder was born with Jupiter trine  Pallas, and everything he sings about reflects this visionary quality.

Last week transiting Pallas came to a full stop right on his Pluto when he discussed the pending change of his visual process. This transit is underscored by the most powerful progression of his Jupiter, which is now exactly trine his natal Pallas. This combination shows how resonant transits trigger underlying progressions to create amazing events.
