Check
out Sara Houcke, the tiger trainer for the Ringling
Bros. and Barnum & Bailey
circus (born March 22, 1977, at 10:12 pm, in Torquay, England). She’s
an Aries archetype unto herself. Aries is the fearless and spirited sign
of the warrior. Sara’s three planets in Aries, along with Chiron and her
South Node, all enflame her spirit with this warrior energy. She’s not
going to take grief from anyone, let alone a big pussycat. Sara’s Sun,
or core self, is in the Fifth House, which is associated with Leo and
big cats, a perfect placement for someone in her profession. Willing to
take on any danger in the interest of adventure, this Aries woman enters
the cage full of man-eating tigers aided by the fearlessness of her powerful
Scorpio rising. Good thing she’s a woman.
Yeah, it is a good thing she’s a woman. That changes everything. Aries
classically bears the reputation for possessing more adrenalin and testosterone
than necessary. Minimum effort to accomplish something? Never heard of
it. A typical Aries attitude toward a tiger is to whip that baby into
place. But this isn’t Sara’s attitude. She’s no typical Aries.
Her Sun in Aries, crisp in her presentation of herself, leaves little
to your imagination. What you see is what you get—clarity with compassion.
Add the expressive Mercury and you’re going to know exactly what she means
and expects. Somehow, you feel reassurance, inspired by her magnetic presence
(Scorpio rising) fueled by her fire. With Saturn (ideally the gentle disciplinarian)
in Leo (the big cat sign) at the very top of her chart, confidence oozes
from her being. The cats get it. And hopefully the cats in the audience
do, too.
Honey and Vinegar
The old saying observes that you can get more bears with honey than vinegar.
So when Sara enters the cage with her cats, loves them, praises them,
kisses them and plays with them, they respond.
Sara possesses Mars in Pisces in the Fourth House of safe space. This
placement offers exceptional kindness and understanding and grants her
the sentient abilities to perceive and feel everything that surrounds
her. No wonder she can talk to cats. And since she offers them only love
and acceptance, she leaves them no room for defensiveness. She makes them
feel at home, also a feature of the Moon. Toss in her tactile, caressing
Jupiter in Taurus and the touchy-feely Moon in the same sign and you have
a “touch master.”
Cats
If you went to the circus to see Sara, her ways would bowl you over. You’d
think about it afterward. With her Jupiter and Moon in the Seventh House,
Sara shows us a better way to relate. Her message is clear: with love
and kindness, defensiveness and hostility cease to exist. In fact, even
the wild, raging beast within, obsessed with security, can be calmed and
trained. Through her radiant beauty comes the message. Be clear, be kind
and be precise. Render love and attention with unlimited abandon.
As Sara shines in center ring, let us remember her Fifth House Sun axiom,
“If you love them, they love you back.” With her ideas of a better world,
life ceases to be a circus
out there.
