Michael Bloomberg Eyes Presidency

Last week, New York City's popular mayor, Michael Bloomberg, announced that he was leaving the Republican Party to become an independent, which many pundits described as a preliminary move to lead a third-party run for president. Bloomberg denied that he was running, but his aides have been studying Ross Perot's 1992 candidacy and Bloomberg himself has roundly criticized the two-party system.

Michael Bloomberg was born with his Sun at 25º Aquarius (February 14, 1942, 3:40 pm; Brighton, MA), a zodiacal location that happens to be exactly conjunct the U.S. Moon. A close tie to the U.S. Moon gives a candidate an immediate rapport with the American people, and Aquarian candidates in general are often referred to as "populists." Bloomberg's Moon (the ruler of his horoscope) is also in Aquarius.

Bloomberg's Aquarius planets square a stellium in Taurus, pitting the systems-oriented, networking, progressive Aquarian impulses against the traditional, financially-savvy Taurus placements. Getting these dynamics working together meant creating a business news service that has made Bloomberg a billionaire. With this background, the mayor has the financial resources to pour into a national campaign, as did Ross Perot. Will he run?

With Aries at his Midheaven, Mars is the planet to watch for his national ambitions. By secondary progression, his Mars recently entered the Twelfth House where it's not terribly effective—unless it's working behind the scenes. His progressed Moon is also in the Twelfth, and will not emerge by next May when he would have to start his third-party run. However, watch when Pluto turns direct in early September (as it hits his natal Mars and Ascendant) for him to make his national influence felt.

Top Five Astro-Events for July

1. President Bush's Solar Return takes place at 12:52 am on July 6 (Washington, DC), and features militant Aries Rising. We can be sure he will continue to push in Iraq, despite mounting casualties (Mars-Ceres squares Chiron). The Saturn-Neptune opposition  aligns with his natal Venus, reflecting profound disillusionment. Moon in the Twelfth House square Pluto is emotionally traumatized.

2. New Moon in Cancer on July 14 is exactly quincunx Neptune—how many scandals will this bring? Watch for the potential collapse of troubled hedge funds tied to subprime mortgages. Dysfunctional families will likely be in the news. Also, watch for developments on immigration issues, since Neptune in Aquarius pits universal brotherhood against provincial attitudes.

3. Transiting Neptune trines the U.S. Mars on July 19, but is a major influence all month. For some, the Mars-Neptune vibe may bring hope to American military efforts in Iraq, while others are reminded of the Vietnam quagmire. Mars-Neptune often presents mixed or contradictory messages, which we might expect from the Generals now as well as many candidates.

4. Venus turns retrograde July 27 while exactly octile Juno, the marriage asteroid. One might reasonably ask, "What's love got to do with it?" under this influence, as breaking commitments—whether personal or in geopolitics—becomes a major theme at this time. Since Juno is quincunx Uranus (the divorce planet), watch for brokered deals to come apart.

5. Transiting Saturn opposes the U.S. Moon on July 28 and is a growing dynamic from early July. The U.S. Moon represents the voters' preferences, reflected in opinion polls. Saturn tests each candidate's popular appeal, and as this aspect becomes exact, expect several national candidates to recognize the futility of their efforts and drop out.

Jessica Alba, The Invisible Woman

Last week's top box office draw, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, stars Jessica Alba, who plays superhero Sue Storm, the Invisible Woman. The original Invisible Woman first appeared in Marvel Comics' Fantastic Four #1, which was released on August 8, 1961. Her powers were rather limited back then, but as women have become more powerful in society, the Invisible Woman's powers have likewise increased substantially.

A horoscope for the Fantastic Four puts the Sun in heroic Leo, and Mars in analytical Virgo. Mars is fortified by a trine to scientific Saturn, and this combination shows that the original superheroes were men with keen analytical abilities and superhuman strength. Venus, as the primary feminine archetype, is in Cancer, where it's enhanced by a sextile to powerful Pluto, and given grace with the trine to Neptune.

Now, the Invisible Woman is one of the premier heroes in the Marvel universe, as Jessica Alba (April 28, 1981; Pomona, CA; time unknown) is one of the premier Hollywood celebrities. With her sensual Taurus Sun conjunct the love planets Venus and Mars, Alba regularly tops the charts as the sexiest woman in the world. And as the Invisible Woman, Alba has beauty (Venus) and physical power (Mars).

Jessica Alba's horoscope neatly dovetails with the Fantastic Four #1 chart, as well as the U.S. horoscope, so that she naturally expresses an American iconic archetype as the Invisible Woman. The many contacts include her Sun exactly opposite the Fantastic Four's fantasy-oriented Neptune, which in turn, is exactly conjunct the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant: she is the American dream wrapped up in a beautiful package.
