See Uranus in Pisces, Part 1.

When Uranus moved into Pisces on March 10, 2003 in Washington, DC, the Sun at 19 degrees Pisces squared Pluto in Sagittarius and Saturn in Gemini. This T-square reactivates the very difficult energies of the Saturn-Pluto opposition. Once again, as individuals and as a society, we are tempted to view our lives from polarized, adversarial and entrenched belief systems. From its square in the Eighth House, the Sun in Pisces warns of the abuse of power and the dangers of withholding secrets. Old wounds and pain are triggered deeply and provide opportunities to heal.

Scandals regarding the funding of various terrorist regimes are revealed as the nation further uncovers the truth about our government's knowledge of events leading up to September 11, 2001. Scandals might also emerge in the media itself (Saturn in Gemini opposite Pluto in Sagittarius) as more people question how the media control information that contributes to the portrayal of adversarial, polarized energies. On the other hand, the Sun in imaginative Pisces in the Eighth House introduces a third, more holistic and compassionate voice into our deeply divided world. How can we envision and create communications that honor the deepest truths of who we all are on this planet?

Uranus Ingress and the Sibley USA Chart

(Editor's note: The Sibley chart was first published in 1787. There are versions for both 4:50 pm and 5:10 pm. We are using the 5:10 pm chart here.)

A grand trine occurs between transiting Venus and Neptune in Aquarius and Mars in Gemini and Saturn in Libra in the Sibley chart, transiting Moon-Saturn which conjunct natal USA Mars in Gemini in the Seventh, and natal USA Saturn in Libra in the Tenth House which rules the Second House. Opportunities exist to form new doctrines that embody our nation's highest ideals and extend to include other nations (Seventh House activation). We can also develop creative, environmentally-friendly, alternative and homegrown resources to reduce over-reliance on foreign resources. These new doctrines and alternative resources could help to alleviate the limitations of the old regimes signified by the transiting Sun-Saturn-Pluto T-square in the USA First, Third and Seventh Houses. Conversely, just as easily, the above energies could represent unquestioned "patriotic" rhetoric and a mechanical use of our ingenuity to protect what's ours, maintain the status quo and cover up deceptive spending practices.

Individual acts of aggression, terrorism or vigilantism could go unchecked as transiting Mars in Capricorn in the USA First House sextiles transiting Uranus in Pisces and opposes the natal USA stellium in Cancer in the Seventh House. However, as individuals, we can choose to harness the Mars-Uranus sextile to express ourselves creatively (Mars in the Fifth House of Uranus ingress chart) and become active members of our communities.

The Last Time Uranus Moved through Pisces

Significant differences exist between the Uranus ingress into Pisces chart of March 2003 and that of March 1919. In 2003, the Moon-Saturn conjunction in Gemini opens to a square of the Sun in Pisces in the Eighth House indicating a very somber and stressful mood. We shift restlessly in an atmosphere of discomfort and challenge, perhaps even distrust, as we question our lives and our leaders. In 1919, the Sun and Moon were conjunct in Aries indicating a sense of new possibility and bold enthusiasm. The public felt more aligned with its leadership, sharing a certain righteous arrogance, after the US's entrance into World War I turned the tide of the war. In 1919, aspects to Saturn retrograde in Leo from the Moon, Mercury and Mars were easier, again indicating a general acceptance of our leadership and our nation's sometimes bombastic pride.

In 1919, the Sun in Aries was separating from a square to transiting Pluto in Cancer  in the Sibley Seventh House while Uranus in Pisces formed a trine with Pluto in Cancer. In 2003, both Mars and Pluto transit the US First House while the Sun in Pisces tightly squares Pluto in Sagittarius. In other words, in March 1919, we were moving away from victorious world conflict that took place overseas while, in March 2003, we find ourselves embroiled in world conflict delivered brutally to our own shores. Interestingly, if we consider that the First House represents the mask of the nation, or the face we present to the world, then with Mars and Pluto transiting there, don't we look like the aggressors and-or terrorists to the rest of the world? By the end of March 2003, will we have launched a significant military initiative? In 2003, with Venus conjunct Neptune in Aquarius trine Moon and Saturn in Gemini, we are more detached from our feelings and dependent upon technology for information and connection. Finally, in 1919, transiting Venus occupied Taurus, sextiled Jupiter-Pluto in Cancer and squared Neptune retrograde in Leo indicating that we were more powerfully connected to our hearts, our senses, our values, our families, our bodies and our Earth, although perhaps naively and over-idealistically.
