Jupiter and Saturn Bridge My Lai and Haditha
From the NewsScope Feedback Department comes a comment about the U.S. Ascendant being "hypothetical at best," and "the least reliable of indicators." The writer goes on to say, "Therefore, as Saturn squares the Scorpio Rising chart in mid-June, this transit may be considered an acid test for the validity of this chart."
This letter was written a week ago, but it should already be apparent that the Haditha massacre and inquiry correspond closely to the gravity of Saturn's square to the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant. Currently referred to as "Bush's My Lai", the Haditha incident (November 19, 2005) and subsequent chain of events has strong parallels to My Lai massacre (March 16, 1968)—especially when considering the astrological cycles of Jupiter and Saturn to the U.S. horoscope.
Criminal charges were filed against William Calley in September 1969 as transiting Saturn was exactly opposite the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant. The massacre wasn't made public until the media picked it up in November 1969 when Saturn was at 4º Taurus (still opposite the Scorpio Ascendant*). Public outrage grew over the next three months as transiting Jupiter and Saturn opposed each other while aligned with the Scorpio Ascendant.
The same cycle, featuring a challenging aspect between Jupiter and Saturn while aligned with the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant, is unfolding now. Jupiter versus Saturn represents the battle between what's morally correct and what's practical and reasonable. Over the next few weeks, as transiting Jupiter and Saturn square each other, watch the outrage over Haditha grow. The nation's self-image (Ascendant) of being noble and kind will be battered by the emerging horrific details of the alleged atrocity.
Rice Proposes Direct Talks with Iran
Reversing a 27-year policy of not negotiating with Iran , President Bush agreed to join EU nations in diplomatic efforts to end Iran 's nuclear development program. The proposal was announced last week by Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, who—according to The New York Times—was also the one who convinced Bush to change his mind.
Condoleeza Rice was born with a Sun-Venus conjunction in intense Scorpio (November 14, 1954; 11:37 am; Birmingham, AL), a combination that naturally favors charm and diplomacy over direct confrontation. Mars in civil, team-oriented Aquarius is in her First House, which gives her an interest in military affairs—especially the most challenging situations, since her Mars squares Saturn.
The Times story indicates that Rice suggested the opening of talks with Iran two months ago, which was when transiting Saturn turned direct right on her Descendant. Saturn in the Seventh House of "others" brought plenty of internal debate, but by the time Saturn reached Bush's Leo Ascendant last week, the dramatic shift in policy was put forward.
Over the next two weeks Condi Rice will likely play an increasingly public role in the international pressure against Iran. Her natal Mars-Saturn square resonates with the approaching Mars-Saturn conjunction, which will be exact on June 18. Then Saturn will enter her Mars-Saturn square throughout July and August, keeping the pressure on. In October, the transiting Jupiter-Saturn square happens to perfectly align with her Midheaven, pointing to some major historical event in which she is a key player.
Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt
A NewsScope reader writes, "In your next column, please provide the chart of Brad and Angelina's baby. That's what we all want to see!" Initial reports indicate that Shiloh was born at 1:40 am on May 27 in Walvis Bay, Namibia , and that she's been "very, very active." This tells us (along with her middle name Nouvel, which means "new") that she probably has Aries Rising.**
Shiloh shares the Sun and Moon in Gemini combination with Jeopardy whiz Ken Jennings, tennis pro Steffi Graf, politician John Edwards, and model/actress Brooke Shields. All four of these celebrities have the bright wit, restlessness, and versatility characteristic of the double Gemini influence. Their relentless curiosity and lively spirits have propelled their careers forward, and we can expect no less from Shiloh .
As a young woman, Shiloh will most strongly identify with her Venus in Aries. This bold Venus is given humanitarian instincts by the sextile to Ceres in Aquarius, and tremendous charisma and boldness via the trine to Pluto near the Midheaven. Venus conunct the cusp of the Second House of money and well-connected to the Midheaven refers to her birth into an extremely rich and famous family.
Although her name is meant to connote "peace", the conditions around Shiloh 's Mars carry the more notorious connotation of civil war. Mars in the Fourth House of home is conjunct the marriage asteroid Juno, reminding us that she is the offspring of Mr. and Mrs. Smith, who were discreetly trying to kill each other (a domestic war). The symbolic projection of Venus, the planet of peace, squaring her Mars, the planet of conflict and war, indicates a higher destiny of fighting for peace in a troubled world.

**A technical problem arises with the quoted birth time of 1:40 am, since this is obviously rounded off to the closest minute. When considering seconds, if she was born at 1:40:00, she has 29º56' Pisces Rising, but if she was born at 1:40:15 (15 seconds later), she has 0º00 Aries Rising.
