Cosmic Café Part Two:
Kim Meets Venus

Jupiter squeezed onto the tall seat next to me, and draped his arm across my shoulders. “So what’s up, honey? How’s life?”

“Good, good,” I answered, “thanks to you.” As a Sagittarian, my own Sun sign is “ruled” by Jupiter, so I tend to be a bit on the optimistic side myself.

“That’s my girl,” Jupiter said, grinning widely. “Hey, Venus is on her way over, so you gotta help me cheer her up a little. This retrograde thing really has her depressed, I’ll tell ya. She calls me about an hour ago, cryin’, sayin’ she’s losin’ her touch, that she can’t get ahold of any of her girlfriends. There’s nobody new followin’ her around, and all anybody wants to talk to her about is where their money is.” He lit a huge cigar, took a long pull, and continued. “It’s been really rough on her. Plus, she’s in Virgo these days, so she’s workin’ too hard—hasn’t taken a day off in months. It’s not healthy, I’m tellin’ ya—ya gotta give yourself a break every now and then.”

Enter Venus

Before I could answer, the door to the Cosmic Cafe opened, and a petite, pretty lady in a tan business suit and pearls came in. She was wearing sunglasses, and approached Jupiter with arms extended. “Hi, baby,” she said, hugging him. “Thanks for meeting me.”

He smiled broadly and squeezed his large body off of the barstool, almost tipping it over in the process. “Whoops! Hey, no sweat, baby. You know I’m always there for you.” As she stood there, wiping a tear away with a flowered handkerchief, he turned to me and grabbed my chin. “You know Venus, dontcha, honey?”

I smiled, and extended my hand. She took it delicately, and smiled shyly. “Hello.”

Jupiter then wrapped his big arm around Venus’ shoulder, winked at me, and said “‘Scuze us for just a minute, honey. We’ll be back. We gotta have a little pep-talk, that’s all.” He ushered her over to a table in the corner, and sat down across from her, taking her tiny, well-manicured hand in his. I sipped my wine and smiled. What a wonderful place. Just then, the door opened, and a handsome man in a military uniform came in and sat down at the bar.
