The WTO Takes Charge The World Trade Organization’s third international summit begins on November 30 in Seattle, and will be attended by delegates from over 100 nations to discuss the global economy and fair trade. The meeting is attracting not only political and corporate leaders, but also a sea of protesters ranging from environmentalists to labor unionists to anarchists.

The WTO (January 1, 1995; 12am; Geneva, Switzerland), with five planets in bureaucratic Capricorn and Mars in Virgo, is, if nothing else, immensely practical when it comes to economic trade. However, the WTO has a critical weak point in its horoscope, represented by theJupiter-Saturn square in the ethical signs of Sagittarius and Pisces.

What all the protesters are gathering for is to question the WTO’s moral authority (Saturn in Pisces) to re-create the world in its corporate image. On November 30 the Sun and Chiron align in Sagittarius, exactly squaring the WTO’s Saturn. This cosmic landmark defines the controversial emergence of the most powerful organization on Spaceship Earth.

At the same time an alternative ideology is forming under the auspices of Mars and Neptune in Aquarius. Astrologer Liz Greene once noted that the return of Neptune into Aquarius would rekindle a popular movement toward socialism, or at least a political movement designed to equitably distribute the world’s wealth. With Mars energizing this Neptune during the WTO summit, we should see the beginnings of this progressive activism.

Mars Enters Revolutionary Aquarius

On November 26 Mars enters Aquarius, and begins an astrological phase that takes us right through the end of 1999 and into the next millennium. Along the way Mars will make important aspects to Neptune, Pluto, Saturn, Uranus and finally Jupiter, marking highlights along a string of potentially extremely disruptive events.

What makes this Mars passage so challenging are the simultaneous links to the US horoscope, as well as Russia’s and other international players. Also, when Mars goes through the middle of Aquarius (December 8-14), it activates the infamous Solar  Eclipse of August 11, 1999. The dormant potential of this awesome eclipse awaits tender times such as the Y2K bug, and the activating agent of the Sun or Mars.

The FBI has already alerted local police forces and the National Guard about potential trouble from radical militias intent on precipitating armed revolution. The hysterical conspiracy theories derived from religious scenarios and the One World government are building up in frenzied fear-mongering, and may erupt under these troublesome Mars aspects.

Bill Clinton’s horoscope indicates that he should be very careful during his visit to the WTO summit. The first aspect Mars makes while in Aquarius is a conjunction to Neptune, an explosive combination that can incite anarchist violence. This Mars-Neptune conjunction is exactly opposite Clinton’s Saturn, so that he is seen by anarchists as the leading authority of the hated economic structures.

Tim Berners-Lee, Web-Weaver

Although computers have been around for many decades, the telecommunications revolution didn’t really get started until the creation of the World Wide Web. The WWW was the brainchild of a single individual who invented it in 1989 while working at the CERN laboratory in Switzerland. Tim Berners-Lee’s book about the invention and development of the WWW has just been released, and is called “Weaving the Web.”

Tim Berners-Lee was born a cerebral Gemini (on June 8, 1955 in London; time unknown). Many Geminis are driven by the quest for information, but Berners-Lee’s Capricorn Moon gives him the ability to manage and organize it in a useful way. The asteroid Pallas Athena is specifically associated with computer technology, and in this horoscope the Sun is directly linked to Pallas by opposition. Pallas is further emphasized by being conjunct the fateful north node.

Given these natal tendencies, what propelled Berners-Lee to create a system with universal appeal? Personal planets linked to the outer planets offer the individual the opportunity of acting as a channel for cultural trends. The paternalistic Ceres in Capricorn is involved in a tight configuration than includes Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. This rare alignment inspires the individual to act as a cosmic agent for evolutionary forces. Ceres here gives birth to a vision, and nurtures and guides it to maturity.

The closest outer planet connection in Berners-Lee’s chart is the Uranus-Neptune square. By 1993 the faster moving Uranus (which governs new technologies) finally caught up with enthusiastic Neptune. This was the year the WWW caught on like wildfire, and ever since internet usage has been doubling every few months.

* Advanced astrologers will note that Clinton’s progressed Moon is simultaneously squaring his Saturn, as his progressed Mars squares Pluto, giving ample astrological evidence that he is under severe physical danger now.
