SUBJECT: Boy Scouts and Homophobobic Bigotry
DATE POSTED: 11/11/2000
NAME: Stephen Duffy
EMAIL: swdnh@earhlink.net
With my independent Sun/Uranus straddling either side of my descendent, I was never big on organizations like the Boy Scouts, as I could never get comfortable with the regimentation. However, the issue of the Boys scouts stand against Gays has very little to do with homophobia, or South Nodes in Sagittarius. It has to do with the alarming increase in pedophiles infiltrating the organization masquerading as scout masters, and the damage done to these young, impressionable and innocent souls. The news media in the last 10 years has been rampant with such incidences, very similar to, and paralleling the abuse of altar boys by Gay Catholic priests. To imply that the Boy Scout organization is wrong to try to protect these young souls from sexual perversion, where the preferred sexual object is a young lad, perhaps your own nephew or a neighbors little boy...why, then we have just missed the point altogether.

If we are to truly take up the torch, and fulfill the true mission of astrology, which is to bring light, truth, and understanding to our worlds, then we must get beyond just looking at cooincidences between signs and aspects and events, and use common sense, and develop the ability to truly penetrate with wisdom into events.

Perhaps the Boy Scouts need to change, and perhaps that change is overdue, but let us be careful. An organization that protects its' youth from sexual perversion is not suffering from the negative side of Sagittarius! It wouldn't matter what sign the Sun was in, or the Moon's South Node. It would be doing what is right. I plead with my fellow astrologers to get back to basics and common sense, lest we give further credence to accusations of our science being "fiddlesticks".
